Our vision is simple: you don’t need a connection with the Cavendish Laboratory or the University of Cambridge to use CORDE, but you can get access to both through the facility.
Our mission is to support your future physics research and for this, we offer a comprehensive service, with best-in-class research facilities across a variety of physics research areas, as well as access to our knowledge base, expert staff scientists, and the people who run our state-of-the-art technical services.

CORDE is the collaborative R&D environment for physics at the University of Cambridge. Part of the world-renowned Cavendish Laboratory, and open to university and industry researchers, CORDE provides access to our equipment, resources and knowledge base – giving you the chance to conduct research using facilities and expertise unique to Cambridge. Designed to enhance physics-related capabilities, CORDE represents a new approach to university resource sharing.
CORDE is a national facility funded by the Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council, part of UK Research and Innovation.
We are currently offering a limited set of CORDE capabilities in advance of our full launch in 2025, after the Department of Physics has moved into the newly built Ray Dolby Centre.
