Access and payment

The first step to getting access with a new project is to contact us and discuss your work package; you can use our short contact form to start this conversation.

How you access CORDE facilities depends on the operating mode you choose.

User Mode

You can access some facilities directly as an equipment user, and we’ll help you to put any necessary Access Agreements in place. We provide you with training and onboarding from our team of experts.

Service Mode

You supply samples or bare material and our facility staff undertake the work to your design and specifications. You can also come to us as a ‘one-stop-shop’ with a concept and we will work with you to turn it into a reality. We can help put in place non-disclosure or consultancy agreements where necessary.

Payment

All access to CORDE facilities requires external funding, which may include research grant funding for HEI-based users, and will be considered in line with the University’s principles for responsible collaboration.

  • All users must provide financial details or a Purchase Order to book equipment or request work.
  • University of Cambridge users will need to provide an account number.
  • Cambridge PhD students or postdocs may need to speak to their PI for an account number before booking.

We encourage users to get in touch at early stages of the funding cycle. We are on hand to help source funding and produce costings for grant applications. See our funding page for more details.

Booking

Registered users can access the Stratocore PPMS booking system using the button to the right for work packages that have been agreed with the relevant Facility Manager. If you’re not registered to use Stratocore PPMS please speak to the Facility Scientist.

How Access is Managed

Access to shared facilities operated via CORDE is through our Equipment Access Agreement (EAA) framework, which enables us to comply with relevant standards and obligations. The framework consists of three components:

  1. Equipment Access Agreement Letter (EAAL) – an overarching institutional-level agreement between CORDE (the Cavendish Laboratory) and your organisation.
  2. Equipment Access Agreement Schedule (EAAS) – outlines the scope of work, facility access, and pricing.
  3. Individual Access Agreement (IAA) – sets out responsibilities and conditions for each equipment user for activities specified in the EAAS.

Together, these documents form the contractual basis for equipment use, safeguarding both the University and the user organisation.
