It is a great pleasure to welcome you to CORDE, the new collaborative R&D environment for physics at the Cavendish Laboratory, providing research facilities for everyone. CORDE is your gateway to outstanding capabilities for flexible nanofabrication, characterisation and precision fabrication. It is open to all physical sciences research communities.
Our vision is simple: you don’t need a connection with the Cavendish Laboratory or the University of Cambridge to use CORDE, but you can get access to both through the facility.
Our mission is to support your future physics research and for this, we offer a comprehensive service, with best-in-class research facilities across a variety of physics research areas, as well as access to our knowledge base, expert staff scientists, and the people who run our state-of-the-art technical services.
Navigate our website to explore the CORDE offer and get in touch with us to discuss your work package. You can use our short contact form to start this conversation.
We look forward to seeing you at CORDE.
Andy Jardine, Director
CORDE is the collaborative R&D environment for physics at the University of Cambridge. Part of the world-renowned Cavendish Laboratory, and open to university and industry researchers, CORDE provides access to our equipment, resources and knowledge base – giving you the chance to conduct research using facilities and expertise unique to Cambridge. Designed to enhance physics-related capabilities, CORDE represents a new approach to university resource sharing.
CORDE is a national facility funded by the Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council, part of UK Research and Innovation.
We are currently offering a limited set of CORDE capabilities in advance of our full launch in 2025, after the Department of Physics has moved into the newly built Ray Dolby Centre.
CORDE is a vibrant and inclusive place to work within the University of Cambridge. We advertise on the Physics jobs and opportunities page.
Meet the people who run CORDE: our team of experienced and dedicated Physicists on the People page.
In order to enable us to comply with our reporting requirements, all users of CORDE are asked to include the acknowledgement statement in resulting journal publications, acknowledging their use of equipment or facilities for that work. For details, please visit the Acknowledging CORDE page.
